Has our hero hit rock bottom? He is hoping that his online sportsbook/poker accounts have hit bottom, but you can always go lower....They say that you have to hit rock bottom before you get help for an addiction, but if the addiction is profitable...

Celtics and my pocketbook are doomed

It's Kentucky Derby time, and I have a little chunk down on Twice the Appeal at 20/1, and a smaller chunk on Stay Thirsty, also at 20/1. Twice the Appeal is Calvin Burrell's steed this year, and may have become the wiseguy horse for this year. Stay Thirsty is presumably named after the wildly popular Dos Equis ad campaign. If not, I still expect that most of the action on this horse has been inspired by the "Most Interesting Man in the World."

If I'm reading the racing form correctly, Twice the Appeal is now half the longshot, at 10/1, and Stay Thirsty has not stayed 20/1, but dropped to 16/1.

The biggest mover looks like Pants on Fire, also opening at 20/1, now down to 7/1. I don't know if the action has anything to do with the fact that the horse has a female jockey, but it may.

Meanwhile, once the race is over, I'm meeting Black Francis at his lair, aka Pluckers, to watch Pacquiao-Mosley. Pacquiao is a 1/8 favorite, Mosley a 5/1 dog. I'm not betting it.

I'm not betting the NBA today either. The last two bets I made on NBA games both lost. As for my futures bets on the Lakers and Thunder, one of them is nearly dead, as the Dallas Mavericks hold a 3-0 lead over LA. I also have a substantial bet on the outcome of the Celtics-Heat series, on the...ahem...Celtics. That bet may be in jeopardy as well, though Boston has not yet lost at home. That could change tonight. It feels to me like it will. It just seems fitting that the Lakers and Celtics both implode equally, in twin sweeps. If the Lakers bow out in four, it will feel much different if the Celtics push the Heat to a game seven, even if they amount to the same thing.

Animal Kingdom has won the Kentucky Derby. The horse opened as a 30/1 shot, and moved to a 20/1 shot. Nice payday for somebody.

I haven't bet any individual
