The Young and the Restless

I'm not exactly a big tennis enthusiast, but the federer Nadal Wimbeldon Final was one for the ages. Now that Nadal has beaten Federer in the French and Wimbeldon, I think we might be entering a phase where Nadal is Mario Lemieux to Federer's Gretzky. Hopefully Nadal doesn't catch Hodgekin's Disease, because that would really suck.

I guess I was rooting for Nadal. Since Federer hasn't mangaged to triumph on clay, I'm all for Nadal winning on grass. Six straight Wimbledon's would have been pretty impressive, but since the grass champions never win on clay and vice versa, winning on both in the same year is arguably even more impressive. Hasn't been done since Borg. For that matter, who is the last player to win the French and Wimbledon in different years? I think Aggasi did it. Maybe Wilander before him.

The crazy thing is that Nadal is only 22 years old and has now won five grand slam events. When Federer was 22 he had won one.

Meanwhile, America's favorite geezer is looking to make a comback. Brett Favre wants back on the Pack...ers but it's not clear if they will take him. Ironic, but his decision to retire after bringing the Pack to the brink of their fifth Super Bowl appearence was ironic too. I slammed Favre a couple of years ago, not for playing on, but for continuing to play for the Packers, when there were teams like the Ravens and Chiefs that were possibly a quarterback away from big things. When Favre said he thought the Packers had a good team, I laughed. That's just what he's supposed to say. Now they are clearly one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the NFC. If Favre comes back I might even consider them the favorite.

Checking bodog, right now the Packers are 8-1 to win the NFC Championship. The Cowboys are the favorite at 2-1. The Giants are 6-1, The Vikings are 7-1, and the Eagles and Saints join the Packers at 8-1. Put Brett back in there and the Packers jump to somewhere between 3-1 and 5-1. For that matter, put him on the Vikings and they do the same thing. All the hype says that the Vikes are the best fit, but the tools running the Packers don't have the stones to send him to Minnesota. We'll see if they dare let him go anywhere at all.
