Has our hero hit rock bottom? He is hoping that his online sportsbook/poker accounts have hit bottom, but you can always go lower....They say that you have to hit rock bottom before you get help for an addiction, but if the addiction is profitable...

Retro Rice Burners

I've taken OVER 198 for Jazz at Lakers. I posted it on covers.com, though probably so close to game time that nobody could follow me. Right now they're about halfway into the 2nd, and LA is up, 41-28.

I find the new Toyota Avalon ads to be unintentionally ironic and bizarre. They play on nostalgia inspired by Mad Men, or perhaps that movie where Gwyneth Paltrow plays a stewardess. They call us back to a simpler time, a time when there were no Japanese cars. Don Draper would be proud--even if he celebrated a raise by buying a new Cadillac. No doubt Sterling-Cooper would be proud to successfully brand Toyota the new Cadillac, especially if they used art deco and pomade to do it.

Maybe it's just me, but the grille on the current Avalon reminds me of a Ford Fusion...or maybe the new Taurus. Not sure what that says about Toyota, Ford, or me.

53-45 at the half. Just slightly off-pace. We'll see if Phil Jackson makes the Lakers play that much more of a half-court game in the 2nd half. If the Jazz can find a way to take the lead I think this goes over. Otherwise...I'm concerned.

The Lakers won, 104-99. The OVER didn't come in until the last half minute or so. According to the zig-zag theory, I should take LA next game, since they didn't cover.

Also according to zag, boston(+6.5)over CLEVELAND should be the play. With my predeliction for taking home teams when the lines are tight, PHOENIX(-4)over san antonio should be another...especially since most places you'll pay 4.5, but I'm not crazy about the Suns history vs. the Spurs, so I may have to pass.
